All of our cats have a story about how they came to our shelter. Amongst the cats, some
have very simple and ordinary stories and other cats have gone through immense
and complicated situations on their way to us.
However a cat may have made their way to us, we put in our greatest
effort to providing a comfortable and safe environment.
This is the same for our 2018 Calendar March model Yebbi.
Yebbi’s former
owner was a 90-year-old lady. Yebbi lived with her owner for a long time as
both a friend and companion. Unfortunately, the grandmother’s health
deteriorated and, no longer able to live alone, has since moved to a retirement
home. The responsibility of caring for Yebbi was passed onto the family.
Our associations
often take calls and offer advice on animal welfare and pet management. Many
calls are from the families of elderly persons, inquiring as to where pets can
be given up.
The large volume
of calls KAPS receive regarding this issue brings into question how companion
animals to elderly can be guaranteed lifelong welfare.
In
response to this, KAPS continues to value the importance of companion animals
but will not adopt out animals to families who cannot provide care for the pet
in the absence of the elderly owner.
Yebbi faced some challenges
coming to our shelter in her old age. Yebbi previously lived without other cats
and thus was not familiar with animal shelter life and, as an elderly cat, could
not quickly adjust to her new circumstances. We do all we can
do for Yebbi to help her live here in harmony with the other cats and have her
to spend the rest of her life in comfort.
Today, in what
feels like no time at all, Yebbi has already spent 10 months at our shelter. Yebbi
is now a part of our shelter family and gets along with the other cats.

a long and healthy life.
